Random thoughts about roadside art, National Parks, historic preservation, philosophy of technology, and whatever else happens to cross my mind.

Another hodag
Another fine example of a northwoods denizen. This guy is on the northeast side of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, gracing a BP station. I had been curious about the material -- there's so much "chainsaw art" out there now that is actually molded resins -- but he's really wood. The artist is from Phelps, Wisconsin.
As to why he's in a cowboy hat and toting a guitar, Rhinelander is the home of an annual country music festival that has evolved into a major event. This year's schedule includes headliners like Reba McIntire and Marty Stuart, as well as a host of up and coming artists I'd quite frankly never heard of, but then I'm not much of a country music fan.
And, for what it's worth, the day we stopped to take photos, gas was going for $4.09 per gallon.

im not much into country music either..i like old country and old country singers..the rest of it is just pop with fiddles..
ReplyDeleteas hot as it is here if we had that wooden statue it would probably burst into flames..
Guess I should be happy the predicted high for today here is "only" 90.
ReplyDeleteThat guy looks like he's really thrilled with the gas prices!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I went by this guy on my way north to Maine, where I stayed a couple of years. A friend and I stayed in Rheinlander. It was the first time I'd ever seen rain come down so hard that I stopped driving.
ReplyDeleteWisconsin is beautiful, but I think my tolerance for a lake effect is quite low. Nan, thanks for this picture. I never noticed the humidity: driving through there, I got to see one of the most wonderful places in the country.
You find the coolest stuff!
