It has come to our attention that members of the Westboro Baptist Church will be protesting outside of the . . . gates in the . . . Road Corridor September 9, 2009 from 10:55 – 11:30 a.m. Should this occur, employees may experience traffic congestion in this area.[Identifying information for actual location edited out in compliance with my policy of not stating explicitly where I work on a personal blog.]
The protest is being held because the church believes [Large Nameless Agency] is supportive of homosexuality. Please be aware of this protest and prepare appropriately when travelling in and out of the campus.
Random thoughts about roadside art, National Parks, historic preservation, philosophy of technology, and whatever else happens to cross my mind.

More weirdness
I am really happy I don't work on the main campus. This popped up in my e-mail a few minutes ago:

Phelps should be kicked out of the church, kicked out of the country and as far as I am concerned kicked out of the human race.. he is a stain on humanity... I can't stand the man or anything he stands for.. he has no basis in reality and no one that stands with him can truthfully say they believe in God, the Bible or have any faith I truly believe. I am not judging them, just from the hate I see from them and I live close enough to them I know quite a lot about them, I know that's not the God I was raised on and not the Bible I read and studied.
ReplyDeleteBe safe..they can get dangerous.. and loud.
We should have put a stop to all the Chrcuh vs. State stuff years ago. We wouldn't be having half the problems we have now. Really, going back to McCarthy in the 1950's when they added "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance."
ReplyDeleteno one that stands with him can truthfully say they believe in God, the Bible or have any faith I truly believe..
ReplyDeleteI would disagree. The Bible leaves plenty of room for the kind of discrimination, anger, and discontent that Phelps preaches.
I would say that those that stand with him have a rather firm grasp on their faith and belief in god and the Bible.
I think they are batshit woo woo crazy, but I don't doubt that they believe.
