Willis Carrier deserves sainthood
We're in Texas. It is hot. Forget the usual pantheon -- here in east Texas the one person who should be on prayer cards, tacky candles, and cheap medallions is the guy who invented central air.
The reason Texans need air conditioning is because they cut down all the trees to plant those lovely sprinkler green lawns, giving neighborhood's that tony golf course look, so highly prized in all the desert states, all the really hot places, all the places with almost no water, like Nevada, Arizona, most of Utah, But I could be wrong. I often am.
